California Top K-12 Public Schools

The California Department of Education (CDE) had launched the Academic Performance Index (API) for each public school in California since 1999.  The purpose of the API is to measure the academic performance and growth of schools.  It is a numeric index (or scale) that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000.  The interim statewide API performance target for all schools is 800.

The following rankings are based on the latest API base data published on March 15, 2004 by the CDE.  There are a total of 5,507 elementary schools, 1,259 middle schools, and 1562 high schools included in the 2004 rankings.

In the following links, you'll find the rankings from year 2000 (denoted as RANK00) to 2004 (denoted as RANK04) and the 2004 API (denoted as API04).  If you have any question, please send me an email.
